How to keep surfers coming to your website

Many websites that are highly successful depend on surfers returning to their sites as a large part of their traffic. It's much easier to convert returning visitors into customers who will buy from you because the more they come back the more they will trust you. Your customers must have a level of trust to spend money. Some different ways to keep them coming back are below.

One of the things you can do is start a blog, a forum or chatroom so visitors can interact with you and each other as can all visitors to your website. As your conversation pages get built up a sense of community will develop and visitors will come back almost everyday to see what's new.

If you think a blog is to tough then just make it an online journal about yourself. People are very curious and they will keep coming back if you post fresh items often. You will also build up credibility with your visitors as they see there is a real person running the website.

Polls and surveys are other things you can consider putting on your website, They do provide a easy way for visitors to give you their opinions, tell you what they like and don't like. They will also tell you what's the want to see and what they don't like about your site. Make sure you keep your polls on topic and anything surfers complain about should be looked at very hard to see if it really does need fixed.

You could also put up some puzzles, possibly some quiz questions everyday or even some of the more popular games. Do a search on free games and you will find quite a few you can add to your site. You can also offer a prize to people with high scores to keep visitors coming back to try to win the prize.

The best thing you can do is add new content or pages to your website. This will get visitors to come back to see what's new. For instance, this site was started with 10 pages and then I'm adding one per day until there will be over 30 articles about building websites, getting traffic and return visitors. When all of the original pages are up I'll add one or two new pages per week. This is the easiest way to get return visitors but most webmasters are to lazy to do it. They'd rather just put up a site and then forget it. Don't do that if you want to make money.
