Search engine optimization and why you need itIt's very cut throat doing business on the net. You actually need to learn something new almost everyday and have the tools to make your site better than the rest of the sites you compete with. Everyday more and more people learn about the importance of optimizing the rankings of their websites. If you don't learn at least some things you'll fail and that's not the goal at all, is it?Search Engine Optimization or SEO is a term used by lots of people in e-commerce. Since 1997 and for the next ten years or so search engines will be the most used tool for finding information on the net. People will continue to use it to find the products or information they need. A lot of the people using search engines only look at the first page of the results. Some will tell you that if you aren't on the first page you will never get any traffic. Obviously the higher your ranking the more traffic and getting into the top three in the Search Engines Results Pages or SERPs you will get more traffic and sell more of your product. Every day the search engine bots are out indexing sites that have been added, sites that have been changed on purpose to rank higher or sites that have just been changed for change sake. Doesn't matter, the point is everyday someone is trying to take your spot. This is why you need to do some type of search engine optimization. You need your pages optimized so you can get the most traffic possible. You may never get to be number one but you do need to be in the SERPs to get even a small amount of traffic. With SEO you get a benefit of a higher volume of traffic and that's what you want. If you have a site with a great sales ratio of ten percent and you get 20 hits per day you would be making two sales. If you do a few simple things you will rank higher and might hit one hundred hits per day and this would generate ten sales. I've had some number one terms in the SERPs and depending on the term traffic was between 500 and 10,000 hits per day. Yes, I made a lot of money. Of course in the early days of the net it was much easier to do because few people knew how to optimize pages for the search engines. Now it's harder but still possible. I've also had pages that were ranked lower than 50 in the SERPs and still would get 50-75 hits per day from those. Without the optimization even that wouldn't have happened. The higher up you are the more you will make from your FREE search engine traffic. There are a ton of things you can do optimization wise to guarantee a top spot and they all involve work and research. There may be things you need to add to your site or remove from your site. You need to get as much information about the keyword phrases that are popular for your theme or niche. Then even more for subsets of those keywords that don't already have a ton of pages to compete against. Make sure that you do your research first and then rewrite your sites or pages content. Try not to make it to heavy but keep it light and informative instead. To commercial will turn off your customers, remember, you want them to think of you as their friend. However there are certain rules that need to be followed for search engines to rank you high. You will also need to make some link trades with sites in or related to your niche. The more inbound links you have from high quality sites the better position you will achieve in the SERPs and having some outbound links to what the search engines consider high quality sites can also help.
Don't get to caught up in the Page Rank myth tho. Look at PR as more of a tie breaker than anything else. I've seen SERPs with the number one ranked page having a PR of 4 and the number two ranked page having a PR of 7. PR is not the end all of search engine optimization. If it was all of the top spots would be filled with high PR sites and that's just not how it is. You can search the net for any help but beware their are a lot of scam artists out there. Be careful of who you deal with. Make sure they can prove what they say. Don't fall for anything that sounds to good to be true. Read as many articles as you can. The more knowledge and information you can gather the better off you will be. The payoff will surprise you in the end and it will be worth it. If you can afford it there are many search engine reports you can subscribe to. There are also many sites that can help you in search engine optimization just as there are many that can help you identify the easiest keywords to rank high for. There are tons of writers who write content for sites that you can also buy or have your own articles written exclusively for you. Start with your customer in mind and then the search engine optimization. The SEO of your site will bring in more traffic than if you do none at all. Start now and get the benefits others aren't. |
