Using Web Templates - Mistakes To AvoidTemplates are a very easy way to get a site designed and they do save some time and some effort. But a lot of people make mistakes in choosing a template for their website and end up with something that wasn't what they wanted at all. Below are a few things you can do to avoid major problems. What you really want is something unique for your own site so don't choose from the most popular templates. You don't want to appear to be just another generic website. A semi unique design from a template sets you apart from all the others and your sales or visits will be much better. Some people will tell you the whole point of using a website template is to save time and work. They will even tell you all you need to do is change the title and some details and you are done. Well, that's not quite true because they don't tell you about the google duplicate content penalty so if you don't change enough of the template you won't get into the search engines with any kind of good position.
You will need to change all the graphics names to something that's fitting for your site, you will need to change some of the text and like this site, the tables it was in were really bad so I also had to redo them. Yes, you can save a ton of time with templates but you can also get banned if you don't spend enough time changing things to avoid the duplicate content penalty. You just need t take the time to make the changes you need to make so it's suitable for your own site and it's theme. If the graphics aren't quite right you can change them quite easily, if the template needs a ton of work it might still be worth it as it's still going ot be way cheaper than hiring a designer to do it for you. You shouldn't have to redesign the whole template but if it comes with text do change the text to fit your websites theme. Sometimes people just make the wrong choice of a template. This is a issue because you want to select templates that will be fitting for your visitors and not have them running away screaming. Don't choose a template because it's pretty choose a template because it fits what your customers want and expect. Then you will do well. |
