Website Usability

User Centered Design

Website usability and user centered design go hand in hand. How great your website design is doesn't matter much if it's hard for your visitors to find what they are looking for on your site. The following are a few more tips ot improve the usability of your website for everyone.

The first thing is to make sure your fonts are suitable. Try varying line height with css to space out the lines somewhat better. It will help readability. Another thing to make sure of your font size is large enough to be read. Some websites use fonts so small, they may look cool, that they can't be read. Then you have the problem of surfers leaving because they can't find what they want. You can give your visitors an option, using CSS, to change the font size for better usability.

User centered design makes it ultra easy for the people that come to your site to find what they want. If you have thousands of pages, or even hundreds of pages on your website you have to give them a simple method to find what they are looking for and without a major problem finding it. You could use an SQL database driven search engine, you could add search google to your website for usability and have them search your site, plus get paid if someone clicks on a relevant ad. You could also make a simple glossary or index of what you have if it's going to be easy to use. The usability of a website is up to you and if you want to have happy surfers the usability of your site must be very high.

Even though 70% of America's wealthy got where they are by investing in real estate, I personally believe that the people who become millionaires through learning how to use the Internet will eventually far exceed that. This lady can teach you what you need to know and which rules are important and which aren't.

Learn site design and the rules you need to know

Always make sure your site loads fast or you will lose surfers. A lot of internet users will leave a website if it doesn't load withing 15 seconds or less. I know
with my cable modem I don't wait that long. Make sure that the main page to your site loads very quickly. When the site loads slowly their attention wanders and they may just go to another website instead of seeing what you had to offer. User center design and usability demands your website load quickly. This enables you to sell more.

The other thing that will upset surfers is broken links. Test every link on your site and make sure it goes where it's supposed to. Nothing can irritate a surfer like links that end up as 404 pages. It says you aren't all that professional and that's not the image you want to present. For the same reason it's a good idea to spell check each of your pages. It just makes sense to do all these things. Website usability and user centered design should always be your goal. You'll definitely make more money than those who don't care about the usability of a website.
