A few keys to much better websites designTo put the ideas of a good design into perspective think about when you shop for something like a t-shirt. What do you look at first? Probably the design and color of the shirt. Most people do and then they look at what material it's made of. If all other things are equal then the design or look of the t-shirt becomes the key.Try to see your website as your visitors will. Here are a couple of different situations you can look at. First a website with a good design and great graphics. Good color scheme with matching theme, pictures where the resolution and compression are relevant, and the right fonts and sizes. Next would be a website with really ugly graphics and pictures that have been overly compressed and low quality. Graphics that aren't really relevant to the site like red pics with lime green backgrounds, non matching fonts on each page, fonts to fancy for your visitors or to small or large. On the first site visitors are going to be impressed by the design and artwork or graphics. Well placed designs and pics will help with trust issues and will show the positive aspects of the website. As we know, most people do judge by first impressions and seldom change that first impression. This site will do well and make money.
For the second site the poor look of the site due to a lack of creativity or badly compressed graphics and pictures won't help you in selling anything to your customers. Fonts that are hard to read and understand, mismatching fonts and themes in terms of color isn't attractive at all. It just doesn't create trust or make visitors feel good. The more welcome you make your visitors feel the more they will buy from you. Which of the two sites would you rather visit? The first one or the second. For the majority of people it's the first site. The main idea is to plan your websites, get others to look at it for design flaws and give you feedback. Each might differ in opinion but you will get feedback and that will help you know what to improve. Don't get this wrong tho, even a plain website with good design will get you plenty of positive implications but the idea here is to make and maintain a great site. |
