Website design - articles vs blogs

Which is better to base your website on. Articles and article marketing or a blog?

I have no real preference as I have blogs, article sites and even a couple of forums. As you know, this site is based on articles that I got from Article Underground Content & Traffic System. My forums are at South Dakota Fishing Forum and another forum at Cynical People and the Truth and that's about it for forums.

I've got 4 or 5 blogs Anger Management and Reduction is one but the main one is at Using your mind and mental power I also have other article marketing sites like southdakotahunting.com and southdakotalakes.com but the two main ones are Stress Relief and guided relaxation techniques and this one at Stress management and dealing with stress so you can see I do article marketing, forums and blogs. I also have a few other sites but they are just that. Sites. No articles, no blogs and seldom updated.

To get back to the point, I was surfing and reading articles yesterday and ran across one that said blogs are worthless and articles are the only way to go. He made a case for articles being more in depth than blog posts and that made them better for search engines and for your customers.

Part of his premise was that blog posts are to short to be informative and replies or comments to blogs are even shorter. I don't believe that at all. Probably because I have blog posts I make that are longer than a lot of articles.

I've also seen blog comments that are longer than some articles I've seen. Blog post can be as long or as short as you want them to be. The man took one premise, twisted it to suit his purposes and then came to the conclusion articles had to be better.

Funny thing about the net. There seldom is one best way to do things. There are many, many different ways to accomplish everything. Making money is the goal. To make money using SE without paying for adwords or the like isn't that tough.

Blogs will work, article marketing will work and static sites will work. Personally I like blogs and article marketing combined. If you notice on the mind blog it's a part of the site and the frontend of the site is articles and pages. SE optimized of course.

What I want you to understand is try different things and then do what works for you or what you are best at. There is no law, rule or guideline that says blog posting have to be short. They can be as long as you want them to be. Same with articles.Nothing says they have to be 600 words, they can be as short as 100 words or as long as 10,000.

You make the rules for you. I update most of my blogs 2-3 times per week but some of them only once a week. The idea is to update your site often enough for the SE to keep returning daily to see if you have anything new.

You can also use a blog to post articles or parts of articles. My anger blog is done that way. Each post is a part of an article. Perhaps that's the best of both worlds. I don't know yet as I just started testing it. So far it looks pretty good.

My conclusion is there is no best way. There is a way that works best for you but you'll have to try several different things to find it. Article marketing works well as does using a blog and landing pages to market things. Static sites also work well. Just make sure you enjoy what you're doing. If you don't you won't do as well as if you really do enjoy marketing articles or writing blog posts.
